Course Title VIBRATION ANALYSIS AND VIBROACOUSTICS
Course Type Integrated Course
Credits (CFU / ECTS) 10.0
Semester Second Semester
Course Description The first module covers various aspects of mechanical vibrations theory and its applications. First, it covers free and forced vibration of linear single-degree-of-freedom systems. It then extends this analysis to two- and multi-degree-of-freedom linear systems. Particular attention is given to frequency domain models and to the principal coordinate formulation based on modal superposition approach. The second module extends what learnt in Module 1 to the case of continuous systems and focuses on how the structural elements of complex vibrating systems such as stringed musical instruments, actually vibrate and radiate sound. The first part of the module is dedicated to vibration analysis of one-dimensional and two-dimensional continuous systems. The second one deals with sound radiation from vibrating structures. Finally, in the last part of the module, special attention is given to the experimental techniques and the numerical methods for testing and modelling the vibroacoustic behaviour of musical instruments.
