Course Description 1st module: This course describes the Physics of semiconductors from the point of view of the impact on real devices of the lattice structure and its modifications. Defects play an important role because they are not necessarily harmful but can also be favourable for the properties of semiconductors. Some advanced applications of transparent semiconductors will also be studied in this course. 2nd module: This course outlines the physics and technology of devices exploiting quantum confinement of electronic states in semiconductors. Topics include: a) electronic properties of low-dimensional semiconductors b) alloy semiconductors and heterostructures c) strain effects in semiconductors.
