Course Title PLASTIC DEFORMATION OF METALS
Course Type Mono-Disciplinary Course
Credits (CFU / ECTS) 5.0
Semester Second Semester
Course Description Slidings and rotations within the different monocrystalline lattice system and extension of these concepts to the policrystal systems (cubic lattices and compact hexagonal lattice). The Asaro's theory and the evaluation of the formability: Ericksen and Nakazima tests. Measurements of the textures: X-ray diffraction and EBDS, interpretation of the polar diagram. The thermodynamic aspect of the cold deformation. The formability at high temperature according to the dynamic material model: relation between the mechanical behaviour and the thermodynamic fundamentals, the energy dissipation, the deformation maps, oxide formation, heat transmiussion between tool and the workpiece. The warm forming. Technological and structural aspects of the plant: slab method and FEM techniques to dimension the component of the plants (tools and engines). Presentation and critical discussion of the main technologies for the plastic deformation of the metals: rolling, extrusion, wiredrawing and forging.
