Course Description Micro and nano-magnetism Magnetostatics: demagnetizing field, magnetostatic energy, shape anisotropy. Landau magnetic free energy and its contributions (exchange, anisotropies, Zeeman). Domain walls. Coherent magnetization reversal (Stoner Wohlfart model) and reversal via propagation of domain walls. Magnetization dynamics: LLG equation, ferromagnetic resonance, spin waves. Magnetic nanoparticles. Micromagnetic simulations (introduction to OOMMF). Magnetic coupling in multilayers (Néel coupling, Exchange bias, Bilinear coupling) Spintronics Two currents model and spin dependent scattering. Anisotropic magnetoresistance (AMR). Giant magnetoresistance in CIP and CPP configurations. Spin accumulation and Valet-Fert model. Tunneling magnetoresistance and magnetic tunneling junctions.
