Course Description The course aims to provide the concepts necessary for understanding the physics and applications of ultrashort laser pulses. The main topics treated are: - ultrashort laser pulses generation mechanisms, propagation in linear and nonlinear optical media, characterization techniques; - ultrafast optical spectroscopy techniques and examples of their application to the study of dynamical processes in physics, chemistry and biology; real-world applications of ultrashort pulses: nonlinear microscopy, coherent Raman spectroscopy and micro/nanostructuring of materials.
