Course Description Kinematics and kinetics of statically determined beam planar structures. Mechanics of contiuna. State of stress, state of strain in the continuum. General principles, principle of mass balance, energy balance, principle of virtual work. Constitutive equations. Isotropic linear elastic materials, Newtonian ideal fluids. Potential elastic end complementary energy. Linear anisotropic materials. Governing equations of the mechanics of elastic solids. Minimum of potential energy. Beams subject to axial load, bending moment, torsion and shear. Elastic deformation of beams, differential equations and boundary conditions. Non elastic effects (thermal strain and prescribed displacements). Strength criteria for brittle materials (Galileo, De Saint Venant). Strength criteria for ductile materials (Tresca, Von Mises). Strength criteria for anisotropic materials. Strength criteria for pressure dependent materials. Stability of elastic structures under compression (Eulerian stability).
