Course Title COMPUTATIONAL FLUID DYNAMICS
Course Type Mono-Disciplinary Course
Credits (CFU / ECTS) 8.0
Semester First Semester
Course Description The course presents numerical methods for the computation of steady and unsteady compressible flows, in the presence of shock waves and viscous effects. The course moves from the conservation laws governing the motion of a compressible fluid, namely the Euler and Navier-Stokes equations. The basic mathematical properties characterizing systems of linear and nonlinear hyperbolic equations are studied, as requested to develop and implement numerical schemes for solving transonic and supersonic problems. In particular, the governing equations are discretized spatially by the finite-volume approach and using unstructured grids, which are convenient to simulate flows in arbitrarily shaped regions. Numerical schemes of Godunov type including Roe linearization are employed in the applications which are conduced within a computational laboratory.
